Why you need to be on TikTok and how to get started.
With over 800 million active users worldwide, TikTok is the place to be to grow your personal brand or business.
I feel like everyone should understand how important this platform is by now….but the truth is most don’t. I know this can really help a lot of you out so let’s get right into it. This is going to be the introduction to many more articles to come on this amazing platform.
TikTok is booming and there is just no way to ignore it.
There are currently 800 million active users worldwide, that’s right 800 million. I won’t even touch on the 2 billion downloads it has.
First, for all my newcomers out there, let’s bring down exactly what this app is. Here is their mission:
“To capture and present the world’s creativity, knowledge, and precious life moments, directly from the mobile phone. Essentially TikTok enables everyone to be a creator, and encourages users to share their passion and creative expression through their videos.”
One of the big keys for TikTok has been the ease of use with the app. Literally, anyone can hop on and easily start making and posting high-quality content.
I HIGHLY encourage you to go download and make your account now, if of course, you haven’t already done so. Here is the link: https://www.tiktok.com/
Now that you are set up and ready to grow, let’s go over some tips to get you on the right path.
First, let’s talk about “attention” and how easy it is to capture. With TikTok, you have the full attention of the user for at least a split second. All you have to do is figure out how to keep them watching. And that may not be too hard since on average users are spending 52 minutes per day on TikTok.
You’re probably thinking well with only 1 second to capture their attention, how can I succeed? It’s actually a lot easier than you think and it really just takes a lot of trial and error. You need to remember, users are used to fast content that is constantly changing. You need to hook them and be engaging.
While the demographic of TikTok continues to diversify, 41% of the average users are still between ages 18-24. This means they are used to seeing people lip-synching videos, dancing, filters, editing, and stories. This doesn’t mean you need to start dancing to grow on the platform, you just need to make engaging content that is valuable within your niche.
Which goes into our second part of defining and owning your niche. This is an area that all TikTok gurus and coaches are claiming is a major key for long term growth and success. Essentially the algorithm needs to know where to place you and who to show your content to. This is done by the type of content you create and the use of hashtags to make your posts searchable.
Whether it’s comedy, providing value through teaching, dancing, or anything in between. Remember, what you want to do is build an audience that knows what to expect from your content.
There are endless NICHES on this platform, and some may shock you. Check out a few examples here and remember there are thousands more just like these:
Perhaps the most popular dentist in the world - https://www.tiktok.com/@thebentist
Proving that age doesn’t matter: https://www.tiktok.com/@cookingwithlynja
A growing nail artist: https://www.tiktok.com/@nailthoughts
A funny math teacher: https://www.tiktok.com/@funny_math_teacher
60 million views in less than 24 hours with their hashtag challenge, #kindsimplecrunchcontest. https://www.tiktok.com/@kindsnacks
You made an account. You understand how easy it is to capture attention. You understand that it’s best to define a niche and grow with that audience. Now what?
Now you go make content, you experiment and you spend time on the app. Understand what other users are doing to grow and build. Find other people within your niche and learn from their past videos.
A big key just like in life is to be consistent. Create your content and post 2-4 times per day to get started. See what videos get likes and views then alter your strategy. All it takes is ONE video to change your entire life. Here is the most recent example of how one video can change it all:

With one simple video, Nathan went viral and everything changed. He got brand deals, launched his own merchandise line, got a custom car from Oceanspray, and more. Not only was this viral video a sensation it boosted sales of Ocean Spray like you wouldn’t believe. If you want to read more about it check this article out.
There are ENDLESS examples of this happening with TikTok and I will share more in-depth stories on how some of the top creators on the platform are growing in big ways through merch, products, brand deals, and more!
Remember this is just the tip of the iceberg, stay tuned as I dive more into this platform, and share everything I learn along the journey.
